Soa Ratsifandrihana

Soa Ratsifandrihana is een choreografe en danseres van Franse en Malagassische afkomst. Na haar studies aan het Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, begon Soa haar carrière als danseres in werken van James Thierrée (Tabac Rouge) en Salia Sanou (Du désir d'horizons). Daarna werd ze lid van het Rosas-gezelschap van Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. Ze danste in Fase (inclusief de solo Violin Phase), de eerste keer dat Anne Teresa deze solo doorgaf aan een nieuwe generatie dansers. Het stuk werd in een artikel in de New York Times uitgeroepen tot een van de "Best dances of 2019". Soa Ratsifandrihana staat bekend om de kwaliteit van haar uitvoeringen.

Naast haar werk als performer, ontwikkelt Soa haar eigen werk. In 2016 werkte ze samen met de muzikanten Sylvain Darrifourcq en Ronan Courty aan de minimalistische en nerveuze teksten van Tendimite. Onlangs maakte ze de choreografie van Folia, dat in augustus 2020 te zien was in de Philharmonie van Keulen. Vandaag woont ze in Brussel waar ze betrokken is bij de creatie van g r oo v e.

Op dit moment is Soa geïnteresseerd in rauwe beweging, muziek en poëzie. Via dans wil ze een synthese bereiken tussen spontaniteit en rigoureuze compositie, tegen een achtergrond van een geschiedenis die op haar lijkt. In al haar werk streeft Soa ernaar de hoogste kwaliteit te bieden aan een zo breed mogelijk publiek.

Soa Ratsifandrihana is a French-Malagasy dancer and choreographer. After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, Soa made her dancing debut in creations by James Thierrée (Tabac Rouge) and Salia Sanou (Du désir d’horizons). She then joined the Rosas company of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. 

Among many other productions, Soa danced Fase (including the solo Violin Phase), which Anne Teresa was handing over to a new generation of dancers for the first time. This piece was named one of the “Best Dances of 2019” by the New York Times. The high quality of Soa Ratsifandrihana’s performance was specifically mentioned. Recently, she joined the team of Boris Charmatz for the touring project 20 danseurs pour le XXe siècle, in which she shares his approach to improvisation. 

In parallel to her work as a performer, Soa has sought to develop her own work. In 2016, she collaborated with the musicians Sylvain Darrifourcq and Ronan Courty on the minimalist, nervous piece, Tendimite. More recently, she choreographed Folia with Aure Wachter and the HowNow company, performed at the Cologne Philharmonic in August 2020. Now based in Brussels, Soa went on to create her first solo, g r oo v e, in which she tries to synthesise a search for spontaneity and rigorous compositional work, against a backdrop of a history that closely resembles her own. 

Soa is Artist in Residency at Kaaitheater for the period 23-25.
