De Britse trompettiste/cornettiste Laura Jurd is geen onbekende bij KAAP: met haar voor de Mercury Prize genomineerde groep Dinosaur speelde zij eerder in Oostende. Jurd komt nu met een nieuw sextet.
Wederom staat haar uitgesproken stem als improviserend trompettist centraal in alles wat ze creëert. Met haar muziek viert en vernieuwt Jurd de rijke jazztraditie, terwijl haar liefde voor The Beatles en Stravinsky, om twee opmerkelijke invloeden te noemen, vaak tot uiting komt. In haar composities combineert Jurd een aardse toon met een lyrische benadering die mag ontroeren. Als componiste heeft ze samengewerkt met London Sinfonietta, Festival of New Trumpet Music, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain en het Ligeti Quartet. Deze avond presenteert ze haar meest recente release The Big Friendly Album (2022).
