Wanneer wordt erotische literatuur een platform voor postkoloniaal en feministisch onderzoek?
In het kader van de samenwerking tussen Salon Arents (Musea Brugge) en KAAP waarin er op zoek wordt gegaan naar de blinde vlekken in collecties en waarin we met het publiek in interactie willen gaan over het museum van de toekomst, nodigen we curatoren duo Alice Ciresola en Simone Basani uit met het project JEANNE. Or the Western Touch rond de figuur van kunstverzamelaar Jeanne Walschot.
Am I Evil? is een collectieve onderzoeksreis die deze vragen onderzoekt via een methode van peer-to-peer mentoring en beoordeling.
Wanneer wordt erotische literatuur een platform voor postkoloniaal en feministisch onderzoek? Hoe kan men de tools van het erotisch schrijven gebruiken om machtsprocessen als discriminatie, nanoracisme, marginalisering, exotisering, misbruik en verleiding vanuit verschillende perspectieven te onderzoeken?
De workshop ontleent zijn naam aan, en wordt ingeleid door, een lecture-performance van kunstenaar Roger Fähndrich: een semi fictieve speculatie over het (seks)leven van, de kunsthandelaar in Afrikaanse kunst, Jeanne Walschot.
PERFORMANCE
In Am I Evil? vertrekt Roger Fähndrich van de schaarse historische informatie over kunsthandelaar en verzamelaar Jeanne Walschot om een uitdagende, semi-fictieve leesvoorstelling over haar leven te maken. Door meerdere personages in te schakelen, probeert hij de gaten in haar levensverhaal op te vullen om Walschots gevoelens te begrijpen. In deze zoektocht kan hij het niet laten zijn positie ten opzichte van het onderwerp van zijn onderzoek in vraag te stellen, en specifiek zijn perspectief als blanke, mannelijke artiest en songwriter.
De lecture-performance, voor iedereen toegankelijk, wordt gevolgd door een eerste bijeenkomst achter gesloten deuren met de deelnemers aan de workshop die Alice en Simone in samenwerking met Els Moors zullen organiseren.

When does erotic literature become a platform for postcolonial and feminist research?
As part of the collaboration between Salon Arents (Musea Brugge) and KAAP in which we are looking for the blind spots in collections and want to interact with the public about the museum of the future, we invited the curator duo Alice Ciresola and Simone Basani with their project JEANNE. When does erotic literature become a platform for postcolonial and feminist research? How can the tools of erotic writing be used to explore power processes such as discrimination, nanoracism, marginalisation, exoticisation, abuse and seduction from different perspectives?
The workshop is introduced by a lecture-performance by artist Roger Fähndrich: a semi-fictional speculation on the (sex) life of, the art dealer in African art, Jeanne Walschot.
PERFORMANCE
In Am I Evil?, Roger Fähndrich starts from the scant historical information about art dealer and collector Jeanne Walschot to create a challenging, semi-fictional reading performance about her life. By bringing in several characters, he tries to fill in the gaps in her life story to understand Walschot's feelings. In this quest, he cannot help but question his position towards the subject of his research, and specifically his perspective as a white, male artist and songwriter.
The lecture-performance, open to all, will be followed by a first meeting behind closed doors with the participants of the workshop to be organised by Alice and Simone in collaboration with Els Moors.
