Jolie Ngemi

Jolie Ngemi (°1989, Kinshasa, DRC) woont in Zwitserland en werkt in heel Europa. Ze begon te dansen in de Protestantse Kerk in Kinshasa. Als tiener beoefende ze urban dances en nam ze deel aan hiphop dance battles in de straten van Kinshasa. In 2006 werkte ze samen met de Congolese choreograaf Jacques Banayanga, die haar kennis deed maken met hedendaagse dans. Via projecten in Kinshasa georganiseerd door KVS ontmoette ze choreografen Thomas Steyaert en Ula Sickle. In 2011 creëerde ze samen met Ula Sickle de solo Jolie, die internationaal toerde. Van 2013-2015 studeerde Jolie aan P.A.R.T.S. in Brussel. Sindsdien heeft ze samengewerkt met Boris Charmatz, Serge Aimé Coulibaly en Ligia Lewis. Ze wordt regelmatig uitgenodigd als gastdocente aan internationale dansinstellingen. In 2021 lanceerde ze het festival BOSANGAN in Kinshasa.

Na Identity na ngayi in 2018, wordt Nkisi haar tweede creatie. Haar dansstijl versmelt Congolese dansen van de straten en clubs met Europese danstradities. Ze omschrijft haar dansstijl als Chakamadesu A U C - Afro, Urban & Contemporary: Chakamadesu is een Congolese stoofpot, gekookt op verschillende manieren.

Jolie Reymond Ngemi (°1989, Kinshasa, DRC) is a dancer, choreographer and musician who lives and works in Switzerland. She started dancing in the Protestant Church in Kinshasa. As a teenager, she practiced urban dances and took part in hiphop battles in the streets of Kinshasa. In 2006, she collaborated with Congolese choreographer Jacques Banayanga, who introduced her to contemporary dance. Through projects in Kinshasa organised by KVS, she met choreographers Thomas Steyaert and Ula Sickle. In 2011, her and Ula Sickle created the solo Jolie, which toured internationally. Between 2013 and 2015, Jolie studied at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. She has collaborated with  Boris Charmatz, Serge Aimé Coulibaly and Ligia Lewis. Jolie is regularly invited as a guest teacher to international dance performances. In 2021 she launched the festival BOSANGAN in Kinshasa. After Identity na ngayi in 2018, Nkisi will be her second creation. Her practice melts Congolese dances of the streets and clubs with European dance traditions. She describes her own style of dance as Chakamadesu A U C - Afro, Urban & Contemporary: Chakamadesu is a Congolese stew, cooked in several different ways.
