The Syncopators is een voorstelling die plaatsvindt in de openbare ruimte. De choreografie, met 5 performers, put uit jazzdanstechnieken en combineert deze met een speculatieve toekomstfictie uit literatuur en film om nieuwe en bovenmenselijke lichamelijkheden te inspireren.
De titel is afgeleid van het woord syncope dat verwijst naar een afwijking van een verwacht ritmisch patroon in muziek of dans, waarbij vaak dynamische accenten worden gelegd op zwakkere beats of sterkere beats net worden weggelaten. Fiksdal wil de conceptuele grenzen van dans als kunst (en haar nauwe band met de koloniale geschiedenis) in vraag stellen. En misschien zelfs bijdragen tot de verruiming ervan.
The Syncopators presenteert ons iets wat we letterlijk nog nooit hebben gezien - het onbekende. Het zien van deze mysterieuze wezens die andere mensen ontmoeten op het plein doet ons nadenken over wat het betekent om iets te ontmoeten dat anders is. De voorstelling wordt samen met andere mensen beleefd - sommigen lijken op je, anderen zijn heel anders dan jij.
The Syncopators nodigt alle toeschouwers uit. We verwelkomen mensen die gewoon passeren om te stoppen en tijd en ruimte te delen.

The Syncopators is a performance that takes place in public space. Featuring five performers, the choreography draws from jazz dance techniques and combines them with speculative future fiction from literature and film to inspire new and superhuman corporealities.
The title derives from the word syncope, which refers to a deviation from an expected rhythmic pattern in music or dance, often placing dynamic accents on weaker beats or omitting stronger beats. One interest of the work is to question the conceptual boundaries of dance as art and its close link with colonial history, and at best to contribute to their expansion. The Syncopators presents us with something we have never seen before – the unfamiliar. To view these mysterious creatures meeting other people on the square is to think of what it means to meet something which is other. The performance is experienced together with other people – some are like you, others are very different from you.
