Een artistieke ochtend die gesprekken op gang brengt - of was het omgekeerd?
BREAKFASTCLUB is een treffen met een artistiek voorstel en met elkaar op een ongewoon tijdstip. In die buitengewone energie worden andere manieren van delen, kijken en beleven mogelijk.
Het concept van Gouvernement combineert presentatiemomenten van kunstenaars met een gemodereerd publiek gesprek over de thematieken die de getoonde werken oproepen. In de context van DANSAND! wordt de eerste editie van BREAKFASTCLUB afgetrapt in samenwerking met het Belgische en Congolese filmmakers Collectif Faire-Part. Het vertrekpunt is hun project SOKL: een replica van de sokkel van het standbeeld van koloniaal heerser Leopold II in Brussel die tijdens DANSAND! dekoloniale acties ondersteunt.
Vanuit dat project nodigt BREAKFASTCLUB twee makers uit. Als eerste zal danser en curator Simomo Bouj een interventie doen op de SOKL. Daarna gaan we naar binnen voor de kortfilm ‘Tukuleur’ van multidisciplinaire kunstenaar Brahim Tall.
Beide interventies werken, net als het omkaderend project van het SOKL project rond de notie van representatie, (de)kolonialiteit en culturele blikken. Onder de deskundige leiding van Laura Nsengiyumva praten we door over deze thema’s in een open gesprek met de makers en het publiek. Bij dat gesprek hoort natuurlijk ontbijt, want zonder koffie en croissants geen BREAKFASTCLUB.

Gouvernement's concept combines artists' presentation moments with a moderated public conversation on the thematics evoked by the works on show. In the context of DANSAND!, the first edition of BREAKFASTCLUB will be kicked off in collaboration with Belgian and Congolese filmmakers Collectif Faire-Part. The starting point is their project SOKL: a replica of the pedestal of the statue of colonial ruler Leopold II in Brussels supporting decolonial actions during DANSAND!.
From that project, BREAKFASTCLUB invites two makers. First, dancer and curator Simomo Bouj will do an intervention at the SOKL. Then we will go inside for multidisciplinary artist Brahim Tall's short film 'Tukuleur'.
Both interventions, like the framing of the SOKL project, work around the notion of representation, (de)coloniality and cultural gazes. Under the expert guidance of Laura Nsengiyumva, we will talk through these themes in an open conversation with the artists and the audience. That conversation will of course include breakfast, because without coffee and croissants there will be no BREAKFASTCLUB.
