Trixie Whitley

Trixie Whitley kreeg de muziek met de paplepel ingegeven, dochter van Chris Whitley, nichtje van Alan Gevaert (dEUS en anderen): muziek zit in elke vezel van haar lichaam. Van jongs af aan experimenteerde ze op drums, de gitaar, als danseres, achter de dj-booth en als zangeres.

In 2013 bracht ze haar debuut Fourth corner uit, een plaat die zowel in België als in New York warm werd onthaald. Een unieke combinatie van jazz, soul, blues, rock en pop. Eind 2015 leverde ze met Porta Bohemica een al even geslaagde opvolger af. In 2019 verscheen Lacuna, met zijn fascinerende mix van analoge electro, hypnotische ritmes en indrukwekkende zang.

Whitley heeft als muzikante een heel concrete ambitie om in 2024 een volwaardige dansproductie op poten te zetten. Tijdens DANSAND! zal ze hiervoor de eerste stappen zetten in dialoog met de Amerikaanse danseres Kayla Farrish.

Trixie Whitley has been surrounded by music from early childhood. As the daughter of Chris Whitley and cousin of Alan Gevaert (dEUS), music is in every fibre of her being. As a kid, she experimented on the drums, guitar, as a dancer, singer and behind the DJ-booth.

In 2013 she released her debut album Fourth Corner, a record that received widespread praise in Belgium as well as in New York. At the end of 2015, she delivered an equally formidable successor, Porta Bohemica. In 2019 she came back with Lacuna, bringing a fascinating mix of  analogue electro, hypnotic rhythms and magnificent singing.

As a musician, Whitley has the ambition to develop a complete dance production in 2024.

During DANSAND!, she will be taking the first steps towards this goal in dialogue with American dancer Kayla Farrish.
