Pak Yan Lau

Lau is een Belgische pianiste en componiste met een passie voor improvisatie, geluidskunst en elektro-akoestische experimenten. Na haar klassieke opleiding in Antwerpen en Porto vestigde ze zich in Brussel, waar ze een vaste waarde is binnen de experimentele muziekscene.

Haar werk beweegt zich tussen minimale geluidsverkenningen (lauroshilau), free jazz improvisatie (met o.a. Mette Rasmussen, Chris Corsano) en ambient/electro-groove (trio Going). Ze creëert ook geluidsinstallaties op locatie, zoals Sogni Liquidi en (t)ears, en componeert voor ongewone bezettingen – zoals in haar ensemblewerk Bakunawa.

Als solist bracht ze de trilogie Books uit (prepared piano, synths, speelgoedpiano’s, gongs, elektronica), en werkte ze internationaal samen met artiesten uit Japan, Europa en daarbuiten. Ze is ook actief in dans, theater en film, en speelde op festivals in Europa, Japan, Taiwan en Hongkong.

Pak Yan Lau is a Belgian pianist and composer with a deep affinity for improvisation, sound art, and electro-acoustic experimentation. Trained in classical piano in Antwerp and Porto, she is now a prominent figure in Brussels’ experimental music scene.

Her work spans minimal sound explorations (lauroshilau), free jazz improv (with artists like Mette Rasmussen and Chris Corsano), and electro-groove/ambient music (trio Going). She also creates site-specific sound installations such as Sogni Liquidi and (t)ears, and composes for unconventional ensembles, as in her recent piece Bakunawa.

As a soloist, she released the Books trilogy (prepared piano, synths, toy pianos, gongs, electronics), and has collaborated internationally, particularly with artists from Japan. Her practice extends to dance, shadow theatre, film scores, and radiophonic pieces, with performances across Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
