Joël Rabesolo

 Joël Rabesolo (°1982) geldt als dé jazzgitarist van Madagaskar. In zijn muziek vermengt hij traditionele Malagassische muziek met moderne jazz.

Als achtjarige speelde hij al op de kabosie, een traditioneel Malagassisch instrument. Op 17-jarige leeftijd raakte hij geïnteresseerd in jazz.

Door elke zaterdagavond in een lokale groep te spelen, ontwikkelde hij zijn vaardigheden in verschillende stijlen. In 2006 won hij de eerste prijs voor jazzgitaar in een wedstrijd voor nieuw talent, georganiseerd door RLI radio. Hierdoor kwam hij in contact kwam met nationale en internationale professionele muzikanten. Begin 2023 behaalde hij zijn masterdiploma jazzgitaar aan het Conservatorium van Brussel.

Joël Rabesolo is considered thé jazz guitarist par excellence of Madagaskar. He mixes traditional Malagasy music with modern jazz.

As an eight year old Rabesolo already played the kabosy, a traditional Malagasy instrument.

At 17 he became interested in jazz. He developed his chops in different styles by playing in a local group every Saturday night. In 2006 he won first prize for jazz guitar in a new-talent contest organized by RLI radio, which allowed him to interact with national and foreign professional musicians. Since 2013 he has been part of Island Jazz, the project of the world famous bassist Linley Marthe, with whom he regularly plays in Europe.

Early 2023 he obtained his master's degree jazz guitar at the Brussels Conservatory.
