Arsène Etaba

ETABA AMBASSA Jérôme Arsène is een Kameroense choreograaf en performer. Hij beoefent traditionele Afrikaanse dansen, Afrostyles (waaronder de Afro-urbane dansen: House, Jizz, NewStyle, DanceHall, Pop, enzovoort) en danscreatie. Door de invloed van danser-choreograaf Guy Jerry OUADJO, die jaren geleden aan de Ecole des Sables in Senegal heeft gestudeerd, heeft hij zich verder ontwikkeld als dansers. Hij studeerde aan de Universiteit van Douala in 2015 en richtte in 2017 The Performers en Compagnie Arsène ETABA op, waarmee hij dagelijkse en maatschappelijke onderwerpen door middel van een reeks performances in de wereld stuurt. Deze optredens brengen therapie, sport, kunst en passie samen met als doel de cultuur te promoten door de expressie van emoties via de dynamiek en beweging van jonge, betrokken studenten en ondernemers.

Arsène danst in het dagelijks leven met één doel: de culturele en artistieke waarden van Afrika te waarderen en te behouden, en in het bijzonder die van zijn land. Hij streeft naar het creëren van een dansindustrie in Kameroen door middel van onderwijs, rondetafelgesprekken en samenwerkingsactiviteiten tussen verschillende bevolkingsgroepen en generaties.
Hij heeft verschillende choreografische werken op zijn naam staan, waaronder MBIEH SUKTEH (2021) en EN(S)EMBLÉES - EN(S)AMBLES (ontving de Goethe-Institut Kamerun Ontdekkingsprijs in 2022).

Hij tourt zelf ook met Serge Aimé Coulibaly - Faso Danse Theatre terwijl hij verder werkt aan zijn eigen oeuvre.

Daarnaast is hij doctorandus aan de Faculteit Geneeskunde en Farmaceutische Wetenschappen van de Universiteit van Douala – Farmacie, niveau 6, met als specialisatie Biologie en Klinisch Onderzoek.

ETABA AMBASSA Jérôme Arsène is a Cameroonian choreographer and performer. He practices traditional African dances, Afrostyles (including Afro-urban dances such as House, Jizz, NewStyle, Dancehall, Pop, and others), and dance creation. Influenced by dancer-choreographer Guy Jerry OUADJO—who studied years ago at the École des Sables in Senegal—he further developed his skills as a dancer. He studied at the University of Douala in 2015 and founded The Performers and Compagnie Arsène ETABA in 2017, through which he addresses daily and societal issues via a series of performances. These works merge therapy, sport, art, and passion with the goal of promoting culture through the expression of emotions via the energy and movement of young, engaged students and entrepreneurs.

Arsène dances with a single daily mission: to value and preserve the cultural and artistic heritage of Africa, and in particular, that of his own country. He is committed to building a dance industry in Cameroon through education, roundtable discussions, and collaborative activities that bridge different communities and generations.

He has created several choreographic works, including MBIEH SUKTEH (2021) and EN(S)EMBLÉES – EN(S)AMBLES, which received the Goethe-Institut Cameroon Discovery Prize in 2022.

He also tours with Serge Aimé Coulibaly – Faso Danse Théâtre while continuing to develop his own artistic body of work.

In addition, he is a doctoral student at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Douala – Pharmacy, level 6, specializing in Biology and Clinical Research.
