Pieter Ampe & Michael Schmid

Pieter Ampe is danser, choreograaf en performer, bekend om zijn speelse werk rond persoonlijke relaties. Na zijn opleiding aan P.A.R.T.S. (2004–2008) werkte hij samen met Gui Garrido aan Still Difficult Duet en trad hij op met ROSAS in The Song. Als artist-in-residence bij CAMPO in Gent creëerde hij (mee) verschillende internationaal getoerde voorstellingen, waaronder Still Standing You (2010), Jake & Pete’s big reconciliation attempt… (2011) en So You Can Feel (2014).

In 2016 begon hij met choreograferen met It’s In The Small Things (KVS) en werkte later samen met Carte Blanche (2018) en het Icelandic Dance Company (2019). Hij werkte samen met Meg Stuart (Cascade), Lisaboa Houbrechts (Vakepoes) en Sweet & Tender Collaborations (Attempts of Togetherness, 2025).

In 2022–2023 ontving Pieter een beurs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap om ademhaling als bron van beweging en verstilling in performance te onderzoeken. Op dit moment werkt hij samen met Michael Schmid aan voorstellingen die zich richten op ademhaling.

Tijdens DANSAND!! 2014 had Pieter een blind date met Boris Zeebroek.

Michael Schmid is fluitist en experimenteel muzikant, bekend door zijn werk met het Belgische Ictus Ensemble en samenwerkingen met toonaangevende Europese groepen voor nieuwe muziek. Zijn praktijk omvat geluidsinstallaties, concrete poëzie en compositie. Sinds 2015 ontwikkelt hij BREATHCORE, een project dat adem verkent binnen artistieke, sociale en politieke contexten.

Hij is (mede)oprichter van The Breathing Saloon, samen met choreograaf Pieter Ampe, met wie hij adem onderzocht voor hun geplande productie ARIA. Zijn werk werd getoond op gerenommeerde festivals en locaties zoals Kunstenfestival des Arts, Kaaitheater en BEAF.

Schmid werkte samen met bekende kunstenaars zoals Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Boris Charmatz, Manon de Boer, Georges Aperghis en Simon Steen-Andersen. Zijn installaties en performances – waaronder The Pitch en Breathcore_Riviera Blues – tonen zijn vernieuwende benadering van ademhaling als muzikaal instrument.

Hij bracht opnames uit bij labels als KAIROS en WERGO, en was te horen op internationale radio en televisie.

Pieter Ampe is a dancer, choreographer, and performer, known for his playful work exploring personal relationships. After studying at P.A.R.T.S. (2004–2008), he collaborated with Gui Garrido on Still Difficult Duet and performed with ROSAS in The Song. As an artist-in-residence at CAMPO in Ghent, he (co-)created several internationally touring performances, including Still Standing You (2010), Jake & Pete’s Big Reconciliation Attempt... (2011), and So You Can Feel (2014).

In 2016, he began choreographing with It’s In The Small Things (KVS) and later collaborated with Carte Blanche (2018) and the Icelandic Dance Company (2019). He worked with Meg Stuart (Cascade), Lisaboa Houbrechts (Vakepoes), and Sweet & Tender Collaborations (Attempts of Togetherness, 2025).

In 2022–2023, Pieter received a grant from the Flemish Community to explore breathing as a source of movement and stillness in performance. He is currently working with Michael Schmid on performances centered around breath.

Michael Schmid is a flutist and experimental musician, known for his work with the Belgian Ictus Ensemble and collaborations with leading European new music groups. His practice spans sound installations, concrete poetry, and composition. Since 2015, he has been developing BREATHCORE, a project that explores breath within artistic, social, and political contexts.
