Lagon Nwar

Lagon Nwar is een uniek Frans ‘etno jazz’ collectief dat intensiteit, diversiteit en poëtische diepgang samenbrengt. Gedreven door saxofonist Quentin Biardeau en bassist Valentin Ceccaldi - bekend van Le Tricollectif - nodigt dit viertal uit tot een muzikale reis doorheen verschillende culturen. Vooraan op het podium staat de charismatische zangeres Ann O’Aro. Ze groeide op in La Réunion en in haar muziek vermengt ze de stuwende energie van maloya - de plaatselijke muziekstijl - met snedige en activistische teksten in het Creools en het Frans. Het viertal wordt vervolledigd met Marcel Balboné, percussionist en zanger uit Burkina Faso. Zijn hypnotiserende ritmes op traditionele percussie-instrumenten maken de muziek van deze band extreem aanstekelijk. 

Samen navigeert Lagon Nwar moeiteloos tussen La Réunion, Burkina Faso, Orléans, Ouagadougou en Parijs – en creërt het een geluid dat nooit eerderte horen was, ergens tussen afro-jazz, maloya, rock-psyché en Europese pop.

Lagon Nwar is a unique French ‘ethno-jazz’ collective that blends intensity, diversity, and poetic depth. Led by saxophonist Quentin Biardeau and bassist Valentin Ceccaldi — known from Le Tricollectif — this quartet invites listeners on a musical journey through various cultures. At the front of the stage stands the charismatic singer Ann O’Aro. Raised on La Réunion, she fuses the driving energy of maloya — the island’s traditional music style — with sharp, activist lyrics in Creole and French.

The quartet is completed by Marcel Balboné, a percussionist and vocalist from Burkina Faso. His hypnotic rhythms on traditional percussion instruments make the band’s music incredibly infectious.

Together, Lagon Nwar effortlessly navigates between La Réunion, Burkina Faso, Orléans, Ouagadougou, and Paris — creating a sound like no other, somewhere between afro-jazz, maloya, psychedelic rock, and European pop.
